How to Hide Facebook Memories (And Why It Can Help Your Healing Journey)
by Vanessa Cardenas, Betrayal Recovery Specialist Serving Westchester, NYC, and the Surrounding Region
Facebook’s “Memories” feature is meant to bring nostalgia and joy, resurfacing old posts, pictures, and moments from your past. But if you're healing from a breakup, betrayal, or major life change, those memories can feel more like an emotional ambush than a heartwarming reminder.
One moment, you’re having a good day. The next, Facebook is showing you a picture of your ex, a past anniversary, or a moment from a relationship that no longer exists. It can trigger grief, anger, or sadness—especially when you’re actively working on moving forward.
But here’s the good news: You have control over what you see.
While you can’t erase the past, you can choose how you engage with it. If certain memories still sting, hiding them doesn’t mean avoiding healing—it means creating space to heal on your own terms.
How to Hide Facebook Memories (Step by Step)
If you're not ready to be reminded of certain people or times, here’s how to take control:
Option 1: Filter Out Specific People
On Desktop go to facebook.com/memories
Click on "Hide People"
Type the name of the person you don’t want to see memories from
Click "Save"
Option 2: Filter Out Certain Time Periods
On Desktop go to facebook.com/memories
Click on "Hide Dates"
Click "Add New Date Range"
Enter the specific time period you want to block
Click "Save"
Option 3: Turn Off Memories Completely
On Desktop go to facebook.com/memories
Click on "Notifications"
Select "None" to stop receiving memory reminders
This quick adjustment helps protect your emotional well-being and ensures that your Facebook experience is aligned with your healing journey.
Hiding Memories is About Healing, Not Erasing
Suppressing certain memories now doesn’t mean they won’t serve a purpose later. The goal isn’t to forget—it’s to create a safe space where you can heal without being pulled backward.
With time, the pain softens. And one day, you might find yourself looking at those old memories with a sense of peace rather than hurt.
Because healing doesn’t mean forgetting—it means growing. It means becoming stronger and more resilient than you ever imagined.
So whether you hide them for now or let them surface later, know that your healing journey is yours to navigate, and you are in control.
